Providence Boat Show sees attendance rise; buyer attitudes positive

Providence, RI, January 16, 2011… Attendance at this year’s Providence Boat Show increased at the steady rates seen at last year’s show as well as at the Newport International Boat Show this past September.  Attendees were buying boats and seriously considering purchases of both boats and all kinds of accessories and equipment.  Some who already own a boat flocked to the new Marine Bargain Basement section of the Show and other new features like the Do-It-Yourself Workshops to give the show a lively vibe.   All in all, the 2012 Providence Boat Show was said to be a success, according to the Show producers and the partnering Rhode Island Marine Trade Association.

The Providence Boat Show, which ran this past weekend (January 12 – 15), is the largest winter boat show in Southeastern New England and the first show of the year in the New England region.  As such, it is an indicator of where the market stands as the boating season begins and boaters and fishermen start to make their plans for the new year.  Preliminary attendance figures show a rise of from 3- 5% over 2011 with the total gate in the tens of thousands.

Bristol, RI… During the past year, the Oceans Caucus was formed in the U.S. Senate with Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI and Lisa Murkowski, R-AK serving as Co-Chairs.  The sixteen member Caucus was said to be created to increase awareness and find common grounds in responding to issues facing the oceans and coasts which support millions of jobs in America and contribute more to the country’s GDP than the entire farm sector.  Friday, January 13, during the Providence Boat Show, the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA) will host  area business people plus local and State political leaders in a discussion of how the new caucus might affect the Rhode Island marine industry.

Five Top Tips to make your log a legal document – and why

Did you know that all of sailing navigation starts with the boat log? And that this vital document can be used in a court of law? John Jamieson (Captain John) shows you how to make sure your boat log includes these entries for safety’s sake!

We had caught them stealing red-handed, and now had them under arrest. It was a cold January day at sea. Throughout the night we had followed the huge fishing trawler as she sneaked into the waters of the delicate US Continental Shelf. Her goal was to fish for lobster–and that’s just what she was doing in the middle of the night! Against the law? Without doubt! And we had her in our grasp.
