vor8814-copy-3What a month! Bruins playing well in the playoffs. Sox back on track. Celts trying to get through the playoffs without the “big ticket” and…… We have the Volvo Ocean Race in town for 2 weeks!

All Rhode Island and SE NE sailors should be shippin up to Boston to Fan Pier to see the Volvo Race Village and particularly to greet the boats as they arrive. It seems that at current prediction time that the boats SHOULD be arriving on Sunday afternoon in Boston.

Fan Pier is ready for action! The events are varied and exciting in Boston. Moth Racing, College Team Racing Semi Finals, Opti Regatta, Inshore Races for the Volvo Boats and of course the restart are just some of the on the water action that will be happening right in Boston Harbor. A true festival of sailing. (image – The FALLON COMPANY)

Sail Newport will bring the race home to Newport on May 1st with a multimedia presentation at the Jane Pickens Theatre. Kenny Read and other local team members will join us in person for a true up close and personal account of the action. Please help us welcome our home team by getting your tickets today at www.sailnewport.org. We also have a raffle opportunity for a full day of training with the team in Boston on May 8th for a practice race day prior to the inport race. Raffle tix may be purchased at www.sailnewport.org as well.

This race has been a wild one to watch unfold with broken boats, equipment, people and sails all brought home in daily video uploads from the boat. PUMA and Ripe TV are producing some video specifically for our event on May 1 in Newport. If it is anything like we got last time, it is not to be missed! This will sell out. Please get your tickets reserved ASAP as we cannot guarantee that any will be available after Tuesday / Wednesday April 28-29.

PUMA CITY. One of the coolest parts of the Volvo Village is the PUMA City, a combination of a dozen or so containers artfully and creatively transformed into a bar and lounge, viewing deck, shopping center and offices for the PUMA team and PUMA event staff. It is a must see! Sail Newport will be helping with events throughout the week up in Boston at PUMA City. Join us for a cappuccino and a sandwich on the third floor, hang out in the lounge or peruse the many shops on the first and second floors.

Please be sure to stay in touch with riyachting.com and the Fan Pier Site for updated information on the arrival times and ways to get on the water to see the action.
