J Boats Names Rhode Island Dealer

02/24/09 Newport, RI. J Boats, Inc. announced  the appointment of East Coast Yacht Sales of Portsmouth, Rhode Island as the J Boats dealer for Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. ECYS President Jon Knowles has been associated with J Boats for 32 years, first as a yacht broker in 1977 with Handy Boat in Falmouth, Maine and then later with his own company, East Coast Yacht Sales, which now has four offices between Camden, ME and Portsmouth, RI.

“J Boat sailing has been a passion with my family for years,” said Knowles. “In the 80′s my wife and I raced most weekends on our J/24 and then moved up to a J/35. In the 90′s our favorite boat was the J/105. In 2000 we cruised our J/44 from Yarmouth, Maine to Labrador and circumnavigated Newfoundland. Last year we competed in the Bermuda Race on our J/46, and my son and I have signed up for the double handed division of the Marblehead/Halifax Race this summer. There is no other line of sailboats that satisfies our customers or my family more than J Boats.”

Jeff Johnstone, president of J Boats, added “Narragansett Bay has been a hotbed of J sailing for many years. Jon Knowles and his Portsmouth team of Jeff Sammis and J.P. Skov will be a great addition to the team, and a valuable resource for all the owners in the area.”

East Coast Yacht Sales is located at the East Passage Yacht Center in the Melville Marine complex in Portsmouth. Upcoming major J events in the area include the J/122 North American Championships in Block Island this June and the 2010 J/80 World Championships in Newport.
