ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Rescuers from the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies helped disentangle a humpback whale off the New Jersey coast yesterday, according to a federal official.

A three-member rescue crew cut away fishing line and other gear last night that had snagged the humpback whale, entangling the endangered marine mammal since at least Wednesday.

Rescuers say the whale suffered injuries to its back and tail, but the animal managed to swim off on its own. Capecodtimes.com
