The first rendering of what an AC34 village might look like was circulated Friday during a meeting of the America’s Cup Rhode Island 2013 Planning Committee. The group is being directed by Keith W. Stokes, executive director of the R.I. Economic Development Corporation.
The image is interesting to look at but it’s just a starting point. The proposal that will eventually be presented to Larry Ellison’s group will probably look a lot different and include several alternative locations. The plan could also include spreading the syndicate bases over several Newport locations or even putting it somewhere north of the bridge but that sounds unlikely.

projo.com – For more than 30 years, Ken Harris’ modest marina with its gray shack on the edge of Greenwich Cove has offered a low-priced, no-frills place for dozens of families to keep their small boats. But this spring, because of questions about state and local permits, he may be forced to close.
Officials at the state’s Coastal Resources Management Council say they can find no evidence that Harris ever obtained a CRMC permit to open his marina. And, they say, he has no proof that he owns the shoreside property. It appears to be East Greenwich town land. More
