SOUTH WELLFLEET - More than a dozen cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles washed up on Cape beaches in the past few days, marking the beginning of the region’s turtle stranding season.
After a warm fall, the water temperatures are finally dropping below 50 degrees. It’s too cold for the sea turtles, which were supposed to have moved south for the winter by this time. Full story

Do you like fishing and have some time to kill? Check out this video taken at Brenton Reef in Newport. This is what goes on under your boat.
Sat- 11/28, 1:20pm. If you’re in Rhode Island you know its ripping out of the west. If you are somewhere else you could check our weather station and have the same information. The image shows the needle pinned at 35 knots and a gust to 49 knots. A neat software feature produces that red outline which only shows up when it is pegged. Check out the archive for mid-day. The average didn’t drop below 22 knots for 3 hours!
Wednesday Nov,26. Rhode Island’s future Tall Ship, the Oliver Hazard Perry, gets towed from Newport by the tug boat Hope. When it is completed in 2011, the Class A Tall Ship will measure in at 207 feet and boast a majestic three-masted, square rig that stands 13 stories tall. It will be a 21st Century version of the naval vessels used in the Battle of Lake Erie, where Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry commanded a victorious fleet.

Tuesday the 132-foot steel hull heads north for a visit to Promet Marine.
“We are calling it a shave and a haircut, but it’s actually preparation for Phase II construction,” said Perry Lewis, vice chair of the non-profit Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island (OHPRI) organization (formerly Tall Ships Rhode Island), “The ship’s bottom will be power washed and zincs and anti-fouling paint applied; the now-iconic bulwarks will be cut off in preparation for the new deck.
Once it is sailing in 2011, the Oliver Hazard Perry will measure in at 207 feet in length and boast a majestic three-masted, square rig that stands 13 stories tall. It will be a working vessel, supporting itself from educational programs, with an office, staff and crew that has a budget of $1 million each year.
