Despite the “alphabet soup” finish in the first race, and a disappointing finish in the last race, we are still happy with the day. We know what our strengths are (boat-speed and boat-handling) and we know what our weakness are (starts), so we are looking to improve. The results are very tight, and with 5 more days of racing, we are confident that we can move up the scoreboard.

Game over for LNG

photo3391The fall edition of Tides (Save The Bays Magazine) is out and the cover is dedicated to the fight to keep LNG out of Narragansett Bay. Here are a few highlights.

Make it a called third strike! The latest “offshore” option for LNG citing follows the 2006 “small barge” option, shot down by the U.S. Coast Guard, and the original 2002 large tanker proposal, also shot down by the Coast Guard.

Weaver’s Cove LNG’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) will spawn a series of public forums where, again, the facts will make a strong case against the proposed terminal. Here’s a guide that focuses Save The Bay’s position and helps put into perspective why this project is simply wrong for the Bay.

Webcams / Weather temporarily down

lightning-gallery-18Saturday afternoon storms knocked out our internet connection at the Hyatt. The two webcams and weather station are temporarily offline. We checked on them Sunday and there is no equipment damage but it will take a little effort to get the connection back because of the remote location.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Webcam 3 is fine. It’s amazing how well the equipment usually performs. This is the first time the Hyatt cams have been off in over a year.

The last boat sitting peacefully at anchor was not only in the right spot but he was lucky too.

We saw the boat on Friday & went out to bring the dude a beer. Today (Sunday) we swam out [with full wetsuits] to bring him a care package with home made chicken soup, fresh corn & tomatoes, apples, pears, home made jelly, butter, eggs, newspapers, etc. His name is Henning Christiansen and he is from Denmark. He has sailed this boat around the world already starting in 2000. It is a fascinating story- pretty cool for a 30 foot boat! Will
