NEB is completely locked down by State Troopers. No stored boats burned. Not even the ones by the restaurant. There were three fire boats in the lagoon fighting the blaze.

A fire broke out at New England Boats this morning about 5: 30am. Buildings 10-9-8 are badly damaged and still burning. It looks like the stock room, lamination shop and metal shop are gone. There are a huge number of fire crews there including trucks from as far away as Warren and Navy fire fighters. There are reports that fire boats form Providence responded and are in the lagoon. There are unconfirmed reports of Fire Fighter injuries.
The breeze is out of the south so the restaurant and going to have huge smoke damage. The same breeze saved DePaul Diesel who is located just south and next to the fuel dock. There is a big concern about the fumes from the lamination shop and stock room.

What a month! Bruins playing well in the playoffs. Sox back on track. Celts trying to get through the playoffs without the “big ticket” and…… We have the Volvo Ocean Race in town for 2 weeks!
All Rhode Island and SE NE sailors should be shippin up to Boston to Fan Pier to see the Volvo Race Village and particularly to greet the boats as they arrive. It seems that at current prediction time that the boats SHOULD be arriving on Sunday afternoon in Boston.

PUMA City is doing something with their 11,000 sq/ft container space that not many others have done. The idea of converting shipping containers into a retail space is not new. Switzerland’s Freitag’s did it back in 2006 with their Zurich shop, but unlike the Freitag experience, the PUMA City experience is mobile.

The programme has seen us dropping, hoisting, gybing, tacking and sail changing more often then you can say bluQube! This is great sailing not only for us as a team, but also for me as a single handed sailor. It’s the prime opportunity for me to experiment and fine tune the sail handling manoeuvres, and top of our list is spinnaker gybing – not that I envisage much of that during the OSTAR! image – Paul Miller

Not since Newport last hosted the America’s Cup in 1983 have the waters of Rhode Island Sound hosted such an impressive collection of 12 Metres,” said class president Jan Slee (Newport, R.I.). Slee is co-chairing the regatta with Gary Jobson (Annapolis, Md.), the tactician on Ted Turner’s winning 1977 America’s Cup team who now is one of sailing’s most recognizable media personalities, and Dyer Jones (Newport, R.I.), who served as president of the class association from 1994 to 2006. “Fierce competition will capture memories of times past, and attract sailing stars, fans and media from the world over,” added Slee.
