Bristol, Rhode Island. The Herreshoff Marine Museum and America’s Cup Hall of Fame was pleased to host a gathering of the 12 Metre Class on Saturday, November 22, 2008. The event, filmed by class media partner Rhode Island Public Television, launched the Golden Year of Racing for the class, celebrating the fiftieth year following the debut of the 12 metre class in the America’s Cup.
In attendance were some of the brightest names in sailing, including sailor and filmmaker Gary Jobson, designer David Pedrick, sailmaker and designer Ted Hood, North Sails president Tom Whidden, Dyer Jones of America’s Cup Management, and Museum president Halsey Herreshoff. 12 Metre Class president Jan Slee addressed the group, outlining plans for commemoration of this significant anniversary of the class.
The Museum looks forward to welcoming the 12 Metre Class to the annual Herreshoff Classic Regatta, which will next be held on August 21, 22, and 23, 2009. The Regatta welcomes all makes and models of classic yachts. For information about eligibility, please contact the Museum at 401.253.5000.
